Contact us at (800) 490-8653 ext 114 Fresno, CA 11-29-2010 Girl Scouts of Central California South joined Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on the steps of the Capitol Building in Sacramento this morning to promote reusable bags. Katie, age ten, spoke about the Girl Scouts commitment to protecting the environment through their Forever Green initiative. She presented the Governor with a Girl Scouts bag made from recycled materials, and urged him to use the bag every time he shops. Girl scouting offers girls activities and programs that teach leadership and practical life skills. Girls learn to respect themselves and others, relate to others with understanding, and gain life-improvement skills that help them develop to their full potential. They also participate in programs that teach them goal setting, teamwork, decision-making and communication skills. Girl Scouts like Katie gain confidence in their abilities and are empowered to serve as advocates for change in their own communities. Cathy Ferguson, CEO for the Girl Scouts of Central California South, who accompanied Katie to the state Capitol, stated, “I am so proud of our girls who have been encouraged by our organization to speak up and make the right choices. Our girls don’t need a law to do the right thing. We need to ensure that our next generation of young women has the foresight to understand and promote the use of reusable bags. Today’s Girl Scouts will become tomorrow’s leaders who will work to make the world a better place.” Watch the presentation on the Girl Scout of Central California South You Tube page: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBtBIyNOKVM Read the Governor’s speech and see video of Katie presenting the bag to the Governor at: http://gov.ca.gov/speech/16596.
